Day 4 - Site Clearance

Today a number of workers were on-site and cracking on with removing the remaining floor and tidying bricks. The suspended timber floor from the breakfast room has been taken up and the joists and sleeper walls removed.

You can see the holes in the wall for the air vents.

The skirting board shows what will be the finished floor height. There was a good 650mm depth of space below the floor to allow for ventilation.

There is a damp problem in two corners which will need to be addressed. At least the damp course is doing its job as you can see a clear line between the damp and dry brick courses.

The fireplace with the hearth removed.

The area where the kitchen, utility and conservatory stood has now been cleared. This will be leveled out ready to receive the hard-core layer. As the finished floor level is somewhat higher than the ground level, the builders will not be required to dig out much of the soil except for leveling.

Looking back at the house. The lead flashing for the roof is all the remains of the old kitchen.

Drainage Material
Materials for the drainage have arrived and we also received delivery of some brick samples today.

Tomorrow we're expecting to start digging the footings with an inspection from the building control officer (BCO)  scheduled for Friday. Things are moving at a swift pace.
