Although the house is great, there are a number of changes we would like to make to the layout to meet our lifestyle.
|
Existing Layout |
- Relocate the garage so that it is attached to the house and build a room above that can accommodate an en-suite and walk-in wardrobe for the master bedroom.
- Remodel the back of the house so that its more open-plan and the kitchen is more central.
- First floor laundry room
The following diagrams show some of the iterations our design went through.
|
Design 1 |
Design 1 provides the minimal amount of change, simply closing off the door on the East side of the house and enlarging the small toilet into a ground floor shower room.
|
Design 2 |
Design 2 removes the wall between the kitchen and the breakfast room to provide a larger kitchen. The
|
Design 3 |
Design 3 creates an opening between the kitchen and existing dining room with some internal bi-folding doors. There is also a thought given to replacing one of the dining room windows with a door to a new patio area in the garden.
|
Design 4 |
Design 4 simply removes the existing utility area and conservatory. The garage is also shown attached to the West side of the house.
|
Design 5 |
Design 5 considers the option of attaching a utility area behind the garage with access from the kitchen and hallway.
|
Design 6 |
Design 6 expands the utility area's width to match that of the garage.
|
Design 7 |
Design 7 adds doors from the kitchen area to the new patio area.
All of these designs were trying to minimise the restructuring the house in terms of removing walls but didn't achieve what we were looking for. So we decided to scrap them.
