Day 23 - Drainage

Image
Today was spent mostly laying the new water mains pipe to replace the old lead pipe. The pipe runs from the front of the property to the back of the garage where the mains valve will be located. Photo 1 Photo 2 Photo 3 Photo 4 Photo 5 Photo 6

Day 22 - Drainage

Today was spent completing the drainage by connecting it to the public sewer via the manhole at the front of the property. Photo 1 Photo 2 Photo 3 Photos 1 to 3 show the trench dug for the drain to connect with the manhole at the front of the property after which it joins the public sewer. Photo 4 Photo 5 Photo 6 Photo 4 shows the drain connecting into the existing manhole, while photos 5 and 6 show the waste pipe going into the manhole and then dropping down into the main channel. Photo 7 Photo 8 Photo 9  Photos 7 to 9 show how the drain runs from the front to the back of the house Photo 10 Photo 11 Photo 12 Photos 10 to 12 show the drains being covered with pea gravel. Day 21 - Drainage

The builders continued with adjusting the drainage today. Photo 1 Photo 2 Its under the ground now but Photo 1 shows the inspection chamber in the background moved so that instead of it being on a right-angle, it now sits in the middle of two 45 degree bends. Small details but the foul waste now runs through the center of the chamber. Photo 3 Photo 3 shows the 100mm inspection chamber moved so that the foul waste, seen coming through the footings also now runs through the center of the chamber, with the rainwater drain coming in through the inlet on the left. Looks much better than how it was originally in the photo below. Photo 4 Photo 5 The main drain line needs to run through the foundations of the garage and to the front of the property where a man-hole connects to the public sewer. Photo 5 shows the guys searching to find where they put a conduit as a placeholder for the pipe while pouring the concrete. It took a lot of digging and time but eventuall...

Day 20 - Drainage

Image
I had scheduled the BCO to visit today as the builders wanted them to approve the drainage before covering it. Photo 1 At 10:30 the BCO was on-site and identified a few areas of the drainage that could be improved. He suggested to replace the three 90 degree bends in the above photo with a single larger 90 degree bend to ease the flow of the waste and also to turn the inspection chamber it connects into so that the foul waste enters through the main run (at the back of the chamber) Photo 2  Photo 2 shows the foul waste now with the larger radius 90 degree bend which looks a lot more tidier. The inspection chamber still needs to be moved though. Photo 3 Photo 3 shows the modified drainage when standing at the back of the extension. The large upright pipe is for the sink in the utility room Photo 4 Photo 4 shows the additional waste pipe that will be connected from the sink. The pipe in the background will be collecting foul from the upstairs bathroom via the...

Day 19 - Drainage

Image
Progress was a little slow today as they ran short of materials whilst doing the drainage. So they shifted their efforts inside to whack down the hard-core ready for a layer of sand and damp-proof membrane (DPM). Photo 1 The above photo shows a new 100mm drain line that is running above the main 150mm drain line which runs from the larger inspection chamber in the background. That bendy pipe is going to be the connection for the toilet with the blue mark on the right being the partition wall. The other vertical pipe that is outside the foundation masonry is for connecting the rainwater pipe. Photo 2 This photo shows where the 100mm drain connects back into the main 150mm drain line. Photo 3 This 40mm waste pipe is going to take the electric cable from the existing location under the stairs through the house and into the garage where the new electric meter and possibly consumer unit will be situated. Photo 4 This photo shows where the electric meter and fuse box i...

Day 18 - Drainage

Image
Today the builders focused on positioning the outlets for the drainage, where the soil pipes (toilets), waste water pipes (showers, sinks) and rainwater pipes will connect to. Photo 1 Photo 1 shows where the first inspection chamber at the point where the main drain line begins. From the left there are connections for rainwater, followed by two for the cloakroom for the toilet, wash-basin and shower. The next one is for the existing rainwater pipe and the last one has the existing soil vent pipe connected to it. Photo 2 This photo shows the second inspection chamber as the drain line bends. Photo 3  Photo 3 shows where the drain line turns 135 degrees to go down the back of the extension. There is also a connection for the rainwater. Previous Next

Day 17 - Substructure

Today was spent most laying hard-core within the ground floor internal rooms. Not really that interesting. Photo 1 Photo 2 Photo 3 Previous Next
