Day 37 - Structural Works

The guys started to remove the chimney from the back wall today. As this wall is going to be completely removed to connect with the extension, the chimney has to be removed on all the floors as there would be nothing to support it.

Photos 2 and 3 show the chimney in the bedroom above.

Photo 4 shows the chimney now removed from the first floor bedroom and Photo 5 shows it removed in the attic bedroom.
Photo 6
This wall just in front of the staircase and outside the old dining room, is designed to be removed but the architect hasn't shown on the plans that a beam should be put in its place.
Photo 7
The piece of timber on the floor shows where the wall in Photo 6 exists below. The wall doesn't appear to be supporting anything above but there is some of the staircase leading up to the second floor and we also discovered that the floor joists would be resting on it. So removing the wall would definitely require something to support the joists. Another thing that our architect missed!

The neighbours wall that was demolished has been finished off with some coping stones and a pier to hide the gap between our walls.
